Alabama Shakes announced their new album Sound and Color is scheduled to release on April 21 via ATO Records. Today, they premiere the first single off the upcoming album, "Don't Wanna Fight." Sound & Color is the follow-up to the band's Gold-certified debut album, Boys & Girls, which earned them three GRAMMY nominations, including a nod for Best New Artist.
The album’s twelve songs reveal a band honed by years on the road, and drawing from a wide range of influences. The bluesy groove of “Shoegaze” or the garage-rock freak-out on “The Greatest” give way to the psychedelic space jam “Gemini.” The gently swaying, chiming title song opens the album with what Howard calls “more of a visual thing, I think of this whole scene going on,” then explodes into the urgent, tightly-coiled funk of “Don’t Wanna Fight.” Long instrumental intros and passages create hazy atmosphere, and then the intensity of Howard’s vocals snaps everything back into riveting focus.
The pre-order for Sound & Color launched today on iTunes, Amazon and the ATO store. Fans who pre-order the digital album will instantly receive “Don’t Wanna Fight.” The album can also be pre-ordered as a 2 LP set on either 180-gram black audiophile vinyl or Limited Edition clear vinyl.
